Using Bench Buddy
Bench Buddy (fair substitution rotations for football teams) and Bench Buddy Cricket (scoring, line-ups, live scores and availability for junior cricket clubs) are free tools, run by Jared Rakich, trading as Bench Buddy Sports, in New Zealand. By using either one, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the apps.
Your account and sign-in
You're responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for the accuracy of what you enter: player names, availability, scores and game settings. The apps work from exactly what you give them. In Bench Buddy Cricket, anyone who scores a match signs in with a verified email address, and the match records which address. Please don't share a sign-in link meant for you.
Clubs, coaches and parents
If you enter information about other people, especially children, you're responsible for having the right to do so, for example through your club's registration with parents. Club administrators and coaches should share links (live scores links and parent invite links) only with the people they are meant for, such as a private team chat. Our Privacy Policy explains what the apps hold and who can see it.
What Bench Buddy is — and isn't
Bench Buddy and Bench Buddy Cricket are planning and record-keeping tools. They do not assess player fitness, safety, or medical fitness to play, and they are not a substitute for a coach's or umpire's own judgement. Decisions about who plays, when, how a match is run, and whether a child should come off are always yours to make. The scores and records in the apps are a convenience, not an official result.
Acceptable use
Use the apps for their intended purpose: running your own team's rotations, or your club's matches. Don't use them to store or transmit anything unlawful, abusive, or that you don't have the right to share, and don't try to access another team's or club's information, or to score or change a match you haven't been given.
No warranty
The apps are provided free, “as is”, with no guarantee that they will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free at any given moment, including on match day. We work to keep them reliable, but we can't promise it, and you should always be ready to run a game without them if they are ever unavailable.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator of Bench Buddy and Bench Buddy Cricket isn't liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the apps, including lost data, a missed substitution, a miscounted score, or a rotation you disagree with. They are sideline aids, not referees. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under New Zealand consumer law that can't be excluded.
Changes
We may update the apps or these terms as they improve. Meaningful changes to these terms will update the date at the top of this page.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
